An Introduction to Dental Care
A Course for Carers of Patients with Special Needs
This half-day course, aimed at carers for anyone with special needs who do not have a dental background, will take a look at common dental problems and practical management issues. Particular emphasis will be placed on helping the carer to manage a client's / family member's own oral hygiene procedures.
Aims & Objectives:
- To understand the basics of dental disease (caries and periodontal disease) and how these are treated.
- To describe the periodontal implications for medically and physically compromised patients.
- To provide practical management hints and tips with regard to the client's own oral hygiene needs.
Programme:
Start: Introduction to dental disease
Presentation and interactive question and answer session.
Start + 40 minutes:
What are the implications for people with special needs? (presentation).
Start + 1 hour:
Practical oral hygiene procedures (presentation and practical demonstrations).
