Module 3 - The Perio / Restorative Interface (code: GDP Mod 3)

Format for the day:

An initial presentation on the principles of surgical crown lengthening, illustrated by numerous cases, is followed by a second presentation on perio-endo lesions, furcation management and root resections. The rest of the day is then spent working on pigs jaws, when the techniques discussed will be practised (handpieces required for root resections).

Graham and Phil supply pigs jaws (one per participant but with spares available) but not surgical equipment, which must be brought by each participant. Handouts will be supplied.

Maximum participants: 12

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To understand the principles of, and indications for, surgical crown lengthening.
  2. To understand the indications and techniques for soft tissue remodelling.
  3. To understand the aetiology and management of perio-endo lesions.
  4. To understand the options for the management of furcation lesions.
  5. To understand the indications and techniques for root resections.

The course should enable participants to:

  1. Carry out simple surgical crown lengthening for pre-restorative and aesthetic reasons.
  2. Treat perio-endo lesions and manage furcation problems.
  3. Carry out simple root resection both with and without surgical access.
  4. Advise patients about the possibilities of soft tissue remodelling.
